Onion Pye
1 pound of potatoes
1 pound of onion
1 pound of apples
12 eggs
2 pie crusts
½ pound butter
1 oz. of mace
1 nutmeg, grated
1 tsp. pepper
3 tsp. salt
6 spoonfuls of water

Wash, and pare potatoes, and cut them in slices. Peel onions, cut them in slices. Pare apples and slice them. Make a good crust and cover your dish. Lay a quarter of a pound of butter all over. Take a quarter of an ounce of mace, beat fine, a nutmeg grated, a teaspoonful of beaten pepper, three teaspoonfuls of salt, mix all together. Strew (sprinkle) some over the butter. Lay a layer of potatoes, a layer of onion, a layer of apple, and a layer of eggs, and so on, till you have filled your pie, strewing a little of the seasoning between each layer, and a quarter of a pound of butter in bits, and six spoonfuls of water. Close your pie and bake at 350 for an hour and a half.
